Bo Hines and the Trump Administration’s Crypto Policy
Hines led the Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, often referred to as the “crypto council.” Under his leadership, a cryptocurrency working group was established, outlining the Trump administration’s stance on crypto legislation. Last month, this group urged the U.S. securities regulator to develop new rules for digital assets, a move aligned with Trump’s campaign promise to overhaul U.S. crypto policy.
Hines’ Political Ambitions and Past Endeavours
The 26-year-old Hines, who has twice unsuccessfully run for Congress in North Carolina, plans to contest for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 5th congressional district. His political ambitions remain undeterred by his previous defeats.

Patrick Witt: The New Face of the Crypto Council
Patrick Witt, Hines’ successor, previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Witt, who also has a background in college football, will continue his role as Acting Director of the Office of Strategic Capital at the Department of Defense. Despite his lack of direct crypto industry experience, Witt’s political connections and strategic roles in government make him a noteworthy successor.

The Future of U.S. Crypto Regulation
Hines supported the GENIUS Act, a legislative milestone signed by Trump to regulate stablecoins. This law could facilitate the integration of digital assets into everyday transactions. Hines’ continued advisory role alongside White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks suggests he will remain influential in shaping AI-related initiatives.
Thoughts
As Bo Hines transitions back to the private sector, the crypto landscape under the Trump administration remains poised for further regulatory developments. Investors should stay informed and consider the evolving regulatory environment when making financial decisions.
